Every now and then I come up with a title that floors me. I guess the technical title of this blog should be “Baby Blog 4” because it’s an update on the pregnancy since many folks have asked me to talk about it. Early on when people would ask me when our baby was due, after I’d say “late August”, 9 times out of 10 the next thing they said was “Whew - it’s going to be a long summer for you!”
I’d politely chuckle but inside would think - “oh - it won’t be that bad”. Well it’s early June and after 100 degree heat (or temperatures near the “century mark” - I have to say that phrase - it’s one of my husband’s pet peeve cliches!!) I can truly say that every one of those folks was right - it will be a little more of a struggle with the heat and 30 extra pounds! I’m officially at a little more than 30 weeks now and thankfully everything is still going very well. Because of the heat I won’t be spending a lot of time outside. I keep telling myself that I’ll get up at 6 am and walk Pepper since Kathryn’s still sleeping at that point, the weather’s still cool and I really need the exercise, but then reality takes hold: why get out of bed and wear myself out early in the day when I’m easily “wear outable” as it is??
We climb a lot of stairs at work, so there’s some good exercise that’s in the air conditioning. The doctors say that the exercise I am doing now can actually help the health of the baby - I guess because of better circulation, so I’m trying to do what I can.
We’ll have the option of doing the 4-d ultrasound in about a month - I don’t know if you’ve had that done, but last time it was pretty neat. My husband really got a kick out of the pictures of Kathryn, although she didn’t kick much during the time we were in the room.
I appreciate everyone’s patience with me blocking part of the weather maps during the presentations. It’s only temporary, though! I also appreciate all the good wishes - let’s all wish for an unusually cool summer so that I and other women expecting during the late summer weeks can get a little more relief! Unfortunately I have a sneaky feeling that our stretch of “near century mark” highs we’ve had over the past four days was only a preview of what could be a long and hot summer. Hope you’re able to stay cool!
