When I last wrote an entry for this blog, it was the end of a saga. Several chapters detailed how I suddenly couldn't eat fried foods and just couldn't get comfortable in the searing August heat. Some viewers bemoaned the fact that they could no longer see several states on the map when I stood at the chroma key (green wall). A few even asked my boss if I could take early leave because they were tired of seeing my big belly. (Hey - I was all for that!!)
But things have changed!! Our new baby girl is such a blessing - weighing in at 10 pounds, 10 ounces at birth! It's no wonder my back was aching so badly after walking Pepper around the block during the last week of the pregnancy!! Sarah Morgan was born by c-section - she just refused to "drop", and while she was still doing well the doctors wanted to deliver her after waiting 4 days to see if nature would take over. In the O.R. the nurses couldn't believe the scale when she weighed in at over 10 pounds. I think I got the prize for biggest baby of the day :).
I recovered fairly quickly with the wonderful help of all the staff at Regional, and we went home after 2 nights. The trip home was different from when we took Kathryn home. With our first baby we drove about 30 mph in a 45 mph zone, hazard lights on (just kidding, but I wouldn't have minded) and she had at least one set of eyes staring at her the whole way home. With Sarah, we went the speed limit and were even tempted to roll through Sonic for a Cherry Limeade or a Root Beer Float (yum).
I had this expectation that Sarah would be opposite from how Kathryn was, and in an important way she is. No colic! Poor Kathryn used to cry and cry and cry. With Sarah, feed her, burp her, change her, and she'll lay there and smile and giggle or else drift off for a nap - sometimes lasting a couple of hours. (yes!) And she's gaining steadily. At her last weigh-in she was 14 pounds, 9 oz. and tall.
I'm glad to be back in the saddle with all my friends at work - we have such a great team of professionals here at News Channel 7. They are relieved to not have to answer the "when is christy coming back?" question.
I will try to post a few pictures of the new baby over the next day or so. I'm still trying to get a routine hammered down to get all of my tasks completed, but I'll get some pictures up in the short term. I sincerely appreciate all of the well wishes, gifts, and welcome back notes so many of you have sent. See you soon!
