Has the cloudy weather had you down lately? It can get depressing, and there's even an acronym for the gloomy weather blues. It's called SAD, or Seasonal Affective Disorder. It's not uncommon for the Western Carolinas to find at least a short stretch of gray skies, and it usually happens when we have a cold air wedge in place. Heavy, cold air at the ground blocks warmer air from moving in to replace it and instead forces it to ride over the cold air. This "mechanical lifting" process creates the stratus, (layered) clouds that cover our area for a couple of days at a minimum. Drizzle and fog can even come with the clouds, so if the cloudy weather wasn't enough to make you feel down, you also have the dampness to contend with.
Does the weather affect your mood? Do you like cloudy days to wrap up in a blanket and veg on the couch or do the gray days make you want to head to the tropics for some sun and sand? Let me know what you think!
No matter what your opinion is, sunny skies will be back for Thursday, so there is light at the end of the tunnel....or in the middle of the forecast. We'll go from SAD to Glad for the end of the week!
