It’s the Coldest Time of the Year (Statistically)

We’re now a month into winter (joy, two months left!) but the end of the coldest temperatures is in sight!

Sort of. We’ve already seen some rounds of bitter cold this month, and the way our weather pattern has been, there’s no guarantee that we won’t see more cold in the weeks ahead.

If you go by the “normals” however, we are now in the coldest time of the year. The averages this week for highs and lows are 50 and 30 for the Upstate, 46 and 25 in the mountains. By the end of the month those numbers are 51 and 32 in the Upstate, 47 and 26 in the mountains.

Yes, that’s not exactly a sudden jump into swimsuit weather, but it is a sign that the odds of seeing warmer temperatures will slowly be climbing in the days and weeks ahead. Great news for those of you looking ahead to spring…
