If you’ve been watching our Daybreak or 11 PM newscasts over the past few weeks, you may have noticed something missing. In particular, a temperature for Greenville…which leaves a big, blank spot on our maps.
Our weather data comes in via the internet from the “official” automated weather gauges across the area. Right now there’s a communication issue with the system that transmits the data form the Greenville Downtown Airport. As a result, the weather information is being sent out manually from the control tower. When the tower is closed overnight, the weather information isn’t getting sent out. The data starts the next morning once the tower re-opens.
As a result, we’re typically missing the Greenville temperature from around 11 PM onward to about 7 AM the next morning. So if you’re waking up with us and wondering why we don’t have a Greenville temperature up...that’s the reason. At least in the mornings, figure the temperature is within a couple of degrees of what you see on our map for Anderson or Spartanburg.
I’m told the FAA is looking into this. There’s no estimation on when this will be fixed; we hope it’s soon. Knowing my luck, it will be this afternoon…meaning once you read this, you won’t notice anything wrong and you’ll be wondering yet again what it is I’m rambling on about!
