While there have been complaints about the level of media coverage of the presidential campaigns of Senator Barack Obama and Senator John McCain - some going so far as to say the media is in the tank for Obama this year - a new study says McCain is getting plenty of exposure in one place on TV.
That would be in late night. And being the subject of jokes from TV hosts might not be the best thing for McCain.
A study by the Center for Media and Public Affairs shows during the first seven months of 2008, McCain was the subject of 549 jokes compared to 382 made about Obama. The study followed the laughs produced from monologues by Jay Leno and Conan O'Brien on NBC, David Letterman on CBS, and John Stewart and Stephen Colbert on Comedy Central.
The presidential contenders still trail when it comes to political figures mocked on TV. President George Bush has been the butt of 605 jokes and Hillary Clinton was the topic of 562.
Here are some of the other findings by the Center for Media and Public Affairs:
Jon Stewart told the most jokes about Obama - 122, compared to 100 on Hillary Clinton and 98 on McCain.
Stephen Colbert zapped McCain most often - 129 jokes, compared to 91 about Obama and 79 about Sen. Clinton.
