Did you catch some of the details about two of the roles that were nominated for Emmys as Best Performance by an Actor in a Drama Series? I took a closer look at the parts of Dexter Morgan (played by Michael C. Hall) in Showtime's Dexter and Walt White (played by Bryan Cranston) in AMC's Breaking Bad.
Here's how these characters are described taken directly from each show's website:
Dexter Morgan
"He'll charm fellow officers with a doughnut..or chop up a victim and package their body parts in plastic bags. Hiding beneath the mundane exterior and contrived façade of Dexter, a charming blood spatter expert for the Miami Police Department, is an obsession with meting his own twisted brand of justice: stalking and murdering the guilty."
Walter White
"Walter White, a high-school chemistry teacher, has inoperable lung cancer. This reality spurs him to take risks to secure his family's financial future, and he forges a partnership with a former student, to make and sell meth. The two quickly become known for top-quality crystal, but success has its complications. A meth investigation led by Hank, Walt's DEA-agent brother-in-law, traces equipment back to Walt's chem lab, and Walt finds himself committing murder and challenging hardened criminals. Walt's wife..thinks her husband's wealthy grad-school friend Elliott is paying for the treatments, but Walt would rather break the law than accept charity from Elliott and is using drug profits instead."
And keep in mind that CBS ran some episodes of Dexter during the writers strike earlier this year.
We've come a long way since Richard Thomas won for playing John-Boy in The Waltons, haven't we?
