Shooting a rocket to explode on the moon. Wasn't that a SPECTRE plot in a James Bond movie? And where was 007 Friday when the moon was under attack?

OK, seriously it's a NASA project to determine if there is water or ice on the moon. Of course, if you woke up Friday morning to see some big massive explosion at 7:31am you'd be better off renting a Michael Bay movie this weekend.

Some of the better Twitter comments I've seen so far since the explosion:

"NASA, you break it, you buy it."

"I'm assuming NASA's strike on the moon was preemptive." - Mo Rocca

"Dear NASA...please do not blow up our moon in the name of science...we've grown kind of attached to it over the years...thank you."

"Dear NASA, will you claim that it was "faulty intelligence" that led you to believe there was water on the moon?"
