I went digging again into the archives and found this story that I did on the very day The Golf Channel debuted on January 17, 1995.
To put things in perspective, a channel devoted to one single sport was a pretty radical development 15 years ago. So we decided to look at what a typical day of programming would look like on The Golf Channel and featured it in this preview.
It helped spur on cable channels devoted to tennis, NFL, NBA, Big Ten conference, racing, parchessi, etc.
ESPN invented a channel that simply shows old games and other sporting events that they term to be “classic.”
Yeah, The Golf Channel went on to do pretty well, didn’t it? I never said I was Nostradameus!
