Most of you know me as co-anchor of News Channel 7 at 5:00, 5:30, 6:00 and 11:00 pm weeknights.
But many of you also know me as a performing musician and vocalist, leader of “Rock and Roll Reunion,” the classic rock band I formed 14 years ago.
The band is performing this Friday, July 4th at the Fabulous Fourth Festival in Columbus, NC. We’ll be the first band on stage, 10:15 – 11:15 am. This is always a great festival, and I’m looking forward to it with great excitement.
This year’s festival will be extra-special for me. It marks the debut of the new “Rock and Roll Reunion” band, and I hope you’ll be there.
Three new members have joined the band. Each is a talented musician and a great person.
Hicks Koon of Gaffney will debut on lead guitar. Folks, he flat-out makes a guitar wail and loves doing it.
Andre` Kerr of Gaffney is “Rock and Roll Reunion’s” new keyboard player (there’s a chapter about Andre` in the “Hub City Music Makers” book published some years ago).
The band’s new drummer is Tim Walker. He plays an electronic drum kit. The sounds he can make are incredible.
You may have seen Tim and Andre` perform with R&RR before. They were great subs for the band, and now they are regular members, along with Hicks.
You’ll recognize the band’s longtime bass player, Sonny Stokes, and I’ll be there on guitar. We’ll play some of the R&RR favorites (with new twists), plus we’ll debut new songs.
I hope you’ll come to Columbus to enjoy the show, then come meet the band members. A band is like family, and the fans are extended family.
We’ll just make it a big rock and roll reunion, okay?
TO FIND THE FABULOUS FOURTH FESTIVAL:
From Spartanburg, take Interstate 26 West (toward Asheville)…
As you cross into North Carolina, take the first exit, immediately after the rest area…
Turn right, heading toward Columbus…
Main Street will be blocked off; turn right and look for parking…
The main stage is across the street from the courthouse. Opening ceremonies are at 10:00 am, and we’ll play from 10:15 – 11:15. Bring lawnchairs and an appetite for barbecue. It’s a very tasteful, family-friendly event.
