Proud of Our "25 Days of Wishes"

Christmas was nearly a month ago, and I'm still feeling the holiday spirit, thanks to a special project community project by News Channel 7 and our "Caring for the Carolinas" partners.

I'm writing about it because I'm so glad we were able to help so many people.

Plus I'm very proud of News Channel 7 for doing it.

We called it "25 Days of Wishes." We asked viewers to write to us with their Christmas Wishes.

Due to the economic situation, we knew the need in the community was big, and we anticipated receiving quite a few entries.

We had -3000.-

Three thousand entries... for 25 slots.

A committee helped us decide the wishes we could fulfill.

The "25 Wishes" project provided a new wheelchair ramp at one home, a ramp raincover at another. A little boy got an electric blanket. A young girl got dental work. The needs were very diverse, things that would make someone's life a little easier, a little better, a little more secure. Food, dental work and home repairs were the most common requests. A number of families who wrote to us had been affected by layoffs and were running out of options.

We did a story with each of the 25 families. The stories were heartwarming.

And on top of what the station did, individual News Channel 7 employees took it upon themselves to make other wishes come true. An additional 36 people got help.

I have worked for this company for more than 26 years, and I've never been so proud.

Good deeds done out of love for fellow human beings are truly gifts that keep giving.

(You'll find the stories from "25 Days of Wishes" at www.wspa.com and use the keyword wish)
