This Thanksgiving AAA expects travel could be up 4 percent from last year the most since the recession started.
But there are some things you need to do before you get in the car.
Maintaining correct tire pressure helps your tires last and saves on gas.
Also remember to make sure to get your oil changed this week if it’s been at least 3000 miles since your last oil change and check your steering fluid antifreeze and transmission fluids.
It's a must to make your car last longer and run well.
Another thing to prepare for higher gas prices.
They're up nearly 50 cents a gallon since last year so we asked Upstate drivers is that enough to keep you home?
Jason Silva, an Upstate driver said no.
"I went and picked up my friend from Charleston last Thursday and were having another friend coming from Mocksville," he said.
AAA also said airline rates have increased this year and airlines have decreased the number of seats available, which could also point to more people on the road.
"We usually go to Tennessee to my stepdads family but this year were just going to Greenville to my Mom's family," said Auriel Branson who lives in the Upstate.
Charlette Holloway, another upstate driver said “ I'm glad I'll be at work I don't have to travel,” she said.
This is the third Thanksgiving Americans will drive in higher numbers than in the past year.
Memorial Day numbers stayed the same and 4th of July saw a decrease in people driving to their vacation spots.
