BMW is hiring 500 new employees in the next few months according to Bobby Hitt, with BMW.
Hitt said the positions will be full-time, production jobs, with benefits.
The 500 new jobs will bring BMW's total employment in the area to 6,000, the same level as before the recession.
The workers are being hired, according to a release, to get ready for the production of the new BMW X3.
Hitt said increased worldwide demand for BMW's vehicles created the chance to increase manufacturing in the area.
MAU, BMW’s contract staffing partner, will be responsible for hiring. MAU will be hiring over the next several months.
The hiring is part of an overall start-up plan of the $750 million plant expansion in Spartanburg. When completed, BMW states, the plan wil lbegin in 2011 with an expanded capacity of more than 200,000.
Qualified applicants should either attend job fairs at the Greenville OneStop (9AM-4PM) on Wednesday, July 7 and the Spartanburg Community College Tyger River campus (9AM-4PM) on Wednesday, July 14, or apply online.

The employees will be what BMW calls contingency associates. They will be hired as contract workers through MAU, but are still considered full-time with eligiblity to a full range of benefits, including: health, dental, 401(k) and vacation benefits.
Zach Brewster, recruiting director for MAU, the staffing company that is filling the 500 new positions said he's looking for certain requirements from potential employees.
Some of the requirements are as follows:
- They are looking for people who have a stable work history (at least one year at one company), a high school diploma or GED, and good references
- The jobs start at $15 an hour for day shift and $16 for night shift
- There is a job fair July 2 just for forklift operators at the Greenville One Stop, 706 Pendleton Street, from 9am - 4pm.
