Merck & Co. Recalling 1 Million Doses Of Childhood Vaccine

» 0 Comments | Post a Comment

Merck is recalling about a million doses of a childhood vaccine.  The vaccine is called Hib and is used to prevent meningitis and pneumonia.

It is a three-dose shot recommended for all children under five and is usually given to infants starting at two months old.  The move was made after testing showed a sterilization problem at its Pennsylvania plant.  Officials say the contamination is not in the vaccine, just at the plant.

We spoke with Dr. Mark Weber from Palmetto Pediatrics who says this vaccine been around since the 80's with a great track record and parents do not need to panic.  It is an important vaccination for children virtually eliminating life threatening illnesses

What parents should do is call their doctor to discuss it with them.
