A vaccine to help smokers quit is showing promise in clinical trials.
Doctors are testing a vaccine called Nicvax. It works by producing antibodies that attach to nicotine and stop it from entering the brain. If nicotine doesn't reach the brain, people lose the pleasurable sensation they get from smoking. Studies show 16% percent of those taking the highest doses of the vaccine remained smoke free after one year.
Nicvax could be on the market in a year or two.
