Heating Up The Savings; Go Green With Your Furnace

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Heating and cooling your house is typically what makes up more than half of your power bill. We have a way for you to save some cash while saving the earth at the same time in this edition of Go Green/ Save Green.

As the weather continues to be chilly, not everyone has a warm fire to cozy up to on a cold winter's night. That's why it is so important to have an efficient furnace to heat your home. Furnaces nowadays aren't the coal spewing, money wasters they once were. In fact, today's most economical furnaces are 45 percent more efficient than ones from just a few years back. A typical heating bill for families is close to 500 dollars for the cold season.

20 year old furnaces that are not environmentally friendly are in approximately one fourth of all the homes in the U.S. If even half of those homes switched to an Energy Star model, we would prevent over 100 million tons of carbon dioxide from being spewed into the air.

Also, you should make sure the type of furnace is right for the area you live in. If you live in the mountains of Western North Carolina, you would want a super efficient furnace to get the most heat for the least money. If you live in the moderate climate of the Upstate, just a moderately efficient model will do the job.

If you end up getting a new furnace for the cold season, make sure it is installed by a professional. You may also want to check your air ducts so they are sealed properly.
