Whether we are on our cell phone, holding a coffee cup, or just an active child we are bound to pick up some bacteria here and there. A new study done by the University of Colorado finds that women seem to pick up quite a bit more than men.
Clarence Lyles says it surprised him, "Women are usually supposed to be cleaner than men."
However, when we asked women, they said it's a no brainer.
Mother, Rhett Demark, says "I believe its true. I would think it would have to be. We change more diapers, we go in and out of more public places and overall handle more things publicly on daily basis than men."
Katherine Vanvleet says, "Probably having two small children just grubby little hands.'
On women's hands, the study found an average of about 150 species of bacteria.
So you are probably wondering why women have more bacteria on their hands? The researchers say one possibility could be all the cosmetics we use.
Demark says, "Make up or lotion. Things that make your hands come into more contact with germs all the time."
They also say it could be because of women's hormones or because men have more acidic skin than women. The good news, while we may have more bacteria on our hands, the majority is harmless or even beneficial.
The researchers in this study noted that hand washing did make a big difference, but they also point out that washing your hands does not completely eliminate bacteria.
