Reduce, Recycle, Reuse; Going Green With Less

»  Comments | Post a Comment

You may have heard the term "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" before. The first word in that phrase is the most important because as Americans, we waste more natural resources than we use. The good news is, you can do something about it.

They say less is more. That couldn't be more relevant in this day and age of trying to do more to save the earth. We've got a couple of simple tips for you to Go Green and Save Green. As Americans, we throw away quite a lot of garbage. In fact, we throw out about 4.6 pounds of garbage every day. That's 1,700 pounds of trash a year, more than double what it was 30 years ago.

We all know about recycling and reusing, but what about reducing? It's a simple way to start the saving process from the beginning. If you buy less stuff, there is less energy being used to create it. Packaging materials like boxes and plastic make up about one third of America's landfills. Also, junk mail takes up almost half of our mailboxes each year.

A simple way to cut back is by registering online by clicking here to stop junk mail from coming to your house. And with your daily shopping trip, cutting out one trip to the market in a month and finishing all the food in your house will save you about 75 bucks. When you do go shopping, buy in bulk which uses less packaging materials and saves you about 50 percent on your grocery bill.

Another way to Go Green is to buy products that have the least amount of packaging. Several products out now also come in recycled containers, which helps to save the planet.
