Recent rains have helped, but pollen levels are among the highest ever, and children and adults continue to suffer.
The main culprits now are oak, elm and hickory, says Dr. David Amrol, director of the Allergy and Immunology Division of the University of South Carolina School of Medicine.
Although pine pollen often is blamed for much of the spring allergy misery, pine pollen is heavy and falls fast to the ground, making the landscape dirty. However, it is a heavy pollen and isn’t airborne as much as other types of pollen.
