I believe in God, the Father Almighty
The maker of heaven and earth
And in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord
Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost
Born of the Virgin Mary
Suffered under Pontius Pilate
Was crucified, dead and buried
He descended into Hell
The third day He rose from the dead
And ascended into Heaven
And sitteth on the right hand of
God the Father Almighty
From thence He shall come
to judge the quick & the dead
I believe in the
holy catholic church
The communion of saints
The forgiveness of sins
The resurrection of the body
& the life everlasting. Amen
The Apostles Creed
I was taught this as the Apostles Creed as a young boy growing up in the southeastern United States. These teachings or doctrines are some of the foundational teachings of Christianity and are taken from the Holy Bible. The Apostles Creed is named after the group of men that Jesus Christ origionally taught that he was the Son of God, the Savior of the world. These apostles, or messengers began to teach others this good news through their preaching and their writings, some of which have been included in the Holy Bible. These men claimed to have been guided in their writing by God Himself.
At that young age I didnt know what I was saying or why but I believe it played a crucial role in shaping my view of life and how I was to live in relationship to God and to people. I have a lot of room for improvement in my relationships with God and men but I think things would be a lot worse if not for the grounding I received in this kind of training.
Have you ever put what you believe in writing?
Where did you get your core beliefs from? I understand that my beliefs arent universal truth just because I believe them. But the core of Christianity is the willingness for whosoever will to believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God who died for the sins of the world based on the evidence presented in the bible and in nature.
What do you believe and why?
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 3:16
