Did you ever think that the windows in your house could be draining money from your wallet? We have some easy ways to see the savings in the windows.
How would you like to save 15 percent on your energy bill? New technology has made it easier than ever for us to go green and save green by simply changing our windows.
Windows are essential for helping to heat and cool our house. Chances are, if you live in a newer house, you have an Energy Star label on the window which is a good thing. The most heat escapes in the wintertime from our windows. That's why it's so important to be energy efficient. And in the summertime, when the heat comes in through the windows, that makes our A/C’s work harder which makes your bills higher.
“You're going green. Hey we are going green with this people. Let's look at this, the energy savings, the energy costs. Environmentally, you are not getting toxins into your home. That makes a lot of difference,” explains Bob Gordon of Bob’s Window Company.
These are those energy star labels we were talking about. These new low E-2 windows are five times more efficient than single pane glass. They also could save you up to 50 percent in heating and cooling costs.
A BTU meter which measures how much sunlight is coming in your house shows how energy efficient windows do the job. With the windows open, it's at about 185. Slap in the E-2 windows and that number goes down to about 20. These brand new super windows takes it from 185 down to 2.
Another go green note: if just one family installs new low emission windows, that would save 1000 pounds of carbon dioxide from being emitted into the atmosphere.
