Technology moves at a fast pace, but that doesn't mean you have to waste time and energy with your laptops or computers.
Whether it’s for e-mail, the Internet or writing letters; many of us use a computer at some time during the day, either at home or work.
In fact, 40 percent of Americans have a computer in their home. We spend over 30 billion kilowatt hours a year powering our laptops or PC's.
Many of us think screen savers actually "save" our screens. In reality, they use up just as much energy as typing up an e-mail. If you are going to be away from your computer for any length of time, just turn off your screen.
A lot of people now are using laptops because they are easier to carry and they're 90% more efficient than a PC. Plus, they have auto sleep modes and LCD screens which use a lot less energy.
Most computers come with newer flat screens, but if you have those old bulky monitors and you just throw them away, it releases four to eight pounds of poisonous gas into the atmosphere. Instead, you should donate it to a school or have it recycled.
Another way to save is making sure your computer or laptop is turned off completely and unplugged when you won’t be using it for a while.
