Tint Your House, Save Some Money

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Keeping the sun out of your house to save money and save the earth. It's a trend that's catching on here in the Carolinas. When you think of tinting windows, you usually think about your car and not your house. We have a viewer email from Go Green/Save Green that told us a couple of easy ways for you to tint your house while you save money and save the earth.
“People really don't know that you can tint houses,” says Scott Smith of Sun Solutions. He is doing his part to Go Green and Save Green, one sheet of tint at a time
“It's usually about 10 to 30 percent energy savings a month,” explains Smith.
Savings is what we are all about. Smith says the money you invest to tint your house now will pay off in the end.
“You're blocking energy out. This benefits you more in the summertime than in the winter, but I tell people we get a lot more summertime months than we do wintertime months,” says Smith.
Tint on your home windows is similar to tint on your car windows, you can see the difference here, blocking out the heat. But that's the difference. In a car window, it absorbs the heat. But in a house window, it helps to block out the heat, which saves you money on your energy bill.
“You can get a clear UV film which blocks out totally 99 percent UV, or you can get a light film which still blocks out about 40 percent of the energy coming in,” states Smith.
In some cases, making your house more energy efficient can give you tax breaks as well.
