At St. Luke's Free Medical Clinic they are busier than they have ever been.

Program and Clinic Director Jane Duralia says, "We are starting to burst at the seams." She says they are seeing double the number of people they usually do each month and she says its all because of the economy.

She says, "Your middle class person who is accustomed to taking care of themselves and when they walk in the door their head is down they are embarrassed to be here."

Joseph Gossett says he never thought he would need the help of St. Luke's, but at 40 years old this truck driver can no longer walk on his own. Without insurance for medical care, he says the little money his family has wouldn't cover it.

He says, "We waited around almost three weeks to get food to come in the house."

Gossett says thanks to St. Luke's he now has a wheel chair and pain medication, so the money he does have can go toward taking care of his wife and two children.

He says, "If it wasn't for them I wouldn't have nothing."

According to Duralia, Joseph is like many of the people looking for help. A good man who is down in tough times.

She says, "You and I could be at the front door tomorrow needing help."

She says usually it takes two weeks to get an appointment. The wait is now up to two months, but she adds they'll continue to accept new patients and the people in Spartanburg who need help will get it.
