You're never too young to learn how to save the earth and help the environment. That's why one school in the Upstate is taking on the challenge of being clean and green.
We're here at Roebuck Elementary School, home of the eagles, where kids are learning to spread their wings to go green and save green. This is Roeby, by the way. We're going to take you inside and show you what's going on.
“Kids have been wonderful with it. They're very interested,” explains Roebuck Principal Annie Means.
For the past two years, kids at her school have taken a special interest in being green.
“Actually we had an interest from our students. We talk about character traits, being good citizens. They said we pick up paper what can we do for our environment.”
Recycling plastic bottles, paper and even changing over to fluorescent light bulbs in their classrooms…all part of going green.
“We're taking care of the planet, not just one student at a time but its just flowing out to others in the community,” says Means.
And the kids have their own ideas about going green.
“Whenever we see the water dripping, we turn it off and when there's trash in the trash can we usually take it out and put it in the recycling bin.”
“Recycling plastic bottles and paper and using fronts and backs of paper.”
So how do they feel about making a difference?
“It made me feel very, very good about myself because it helps us do a little something to help the environment and the ecosystem.”
“We are being good to the earth, good to the environment and of course that's a great thing to do.”
Roebuck Elementary also has its own TV station, WRES, where the students give a daily report about ideas to go green and save green.
