H1N1 Causes Increase In Seasonal Flu Vaccinations

»  Comments | Post a Comment

If you want to get your seasonal flu shot, depending on where you go, you might not be able to get yours right away.

At least one area flu clinic has already run out of the vaccine. While Walgreens officials tell News Channel 7 they have plenty of the vaccine, in less than three weeks, they've almost given out as many flu shots as they did in last years entire flu season.

If you want to get a flu shot at the Haywood County Health Center, you'll have to wait. Workers gave out nearly 2,500 flu vaccinations in a day in a half and have run out of the vaccine.

“This is the first time we've ever run out in a mass clinic,” says Haywood County Health Director Carmine Rocco.

Rocco blames the run on the seasonal flu vaccine on the H1N1 virus. He feels it is making more people aware of the flu in general. At this point he doesn't know how many doses his clinic will receive for the H1N1 vaccination but he anticipates a similar situation as the seasonal vaccination.

If you are in need of the seasonal vaccination, you can contact your doctor or go to a pharmacy like Walgreens or CVS.

The Haywood County Health Center will have more of the vaccine available at a flu clinic on October first.

Rocco says the clinic should start getting the H1N1 vaccination by mid to late October.
