It's a big weekend for sports fans as preparations for Super Bowl XLIV get under way in Miami. This week, we take a look at how your super weekend can be super green.
As you get ready for the big game on News Channel 7, you might be heading to a party or hosting your own. We've got a couple of ways to go green and save green and make your party more energy efficient and earth friendly.
Of course when you do your shopping for your big party, an easy way is to use one of these re usable bags to get your chips, dips and also...eco-friendly silverware. They're made of bio degradable material. So that helps to save the earth and go green.
Obviously the TV is a huge component to having a big game party. What you can do is get a TV that is energy star rated. They have those new energy efficient models and it could be a good time to get a new television. Also, with everyone watching at your house, you have fewer TV's on at other people's houses, thus saving energy.
“We have two kids and we want to protect the environment for future generations,” explains Cherish Benton.
She is always thinking green when she has friends over.
“Anytime we have a party, we have separate bins for recyclables and then also a place to scrape off your paper plates...so then those can go into our compost pile and they turn into dirt and we use it in our garden.”
Another idea is to grab a few friends and carpool over to your party. Just make sure you have a designated driver.
