When you see the inflatable Statue of save Liberty, you know it's tax season. We've got a couple of ways for you to go green and green and how you can save money on your tax return for 2009.
Cherish Benton is a busy mom who is always looking for ways to go green and save green.
“If it wasn't for the tax credits, I don't know if we could afford it.”
The Benton family spent nearly $4000 in 2009 making their home more energy efficient.
“We had new windows installed. The old ones were extremely inefficient and we were losing a lot of air that way,” says Benton.
They also had a new heat pump put in, along with a tankless water heater so they could save money and energy.
“This thing is great. I could turn on my hot water and take off to Charleston, come back and there would still be hot water,” explains Benton.
With tax season in full swing, many Americans are finding out that it pays to go green.
“You claim up to $5000 and your credit on that would be $1500.”
Angelia Clark with Liberty Tax Service says it's easy to claim some green to get some green.
“It's for the purchase of biomass, heating ventilation, air conditioning,” Clark says.
It's simple...the IRS will let you claim 30 percent of energy efficient updates to your house...a return on your investment that can come pretty quickly.
“Now when we get our tax credit back we can pay it off and it makes it more affordable to do it that way,” says Benton.
