It's something most of us do on a daily basis...getting in our cars and driving to work or school. But how can you be friendly to the environment as you hit the road? We have the answers with Go Green and Save Green.
As you sit behind the wheel, you probably don't realize how much your car contributes to pollution...unless you have one of those hybrid vehicles. 25 percent of the total energy used in the U.S. comes from transportation, releasing harmful chemicals and pollutants into the air. So here are a few ways to clean up the commute.
It's important to keep your car in good condition. That's one way to go green and save green. Replace the oil filter and air filter on a regular basis and make sure your mechanic recycles old materials like oil and tires.
We spend a lot of time idling in our cars. If you see a long line at the drive thru...park the car and walk in instead. It shouldn't take much more time and will cut down on your idling.
Also, it’s important not to idle for more than 30 seconds and to limit the amount of time you rev your engine.
Make sure to maintain the right amount of air pressure in your tires...and remember, it's the number the car manufacturer recommends, not the number on the tire.
"I need you to get the kids, pick up some groceries and don't forget the dry cleaning."
If you have a long to-do list, try combining your errands into one trip. It's better to take the car out only once a day as opposed to making multiple small trips...or you can do your shopping online.
