There's A "Green" App For That

Cell phones, PDA's, Blackberrys…We are more connected than ever these days. Now, a new program gives you a direct route to go green.

Technology has come a long way in the “go green save green” movement and if you're wondering what you can do to help out? Guess what? There's an app for that.

Finding green on your I Phone. This new application lets you seek out green businesses with the touch of a button. So we decided to test it out.

Our first stop on the I Phone tour brings us to Garner's Natural Life in Greenville where they specialize in going green and saving green.

“We sell organic body products, pet products, hair care and makeup.”

Susan Clark, manager of Garner's Natural Life, says it's easy being green.

Candace Garner, the owner, made sure that the floors were bamboo, the lights are the energy saving lights, everything is natural rock,” explains Clark.

The mostly organic store makes being green a priority

“When you are around and see all the waste in landfills and all that and you think about your grandchildren, you know it's right.”

Next up on the list...alternative energy solutions. It took us here to Sun Store Solar Energy in Greer.

“Most of the time when they come in they want the solar electric, but then they realize the solar hot water has a much better return on the investment. It pays for itself in three to five years,” says Charro Hanahan.

At Sun Store Solutions, they make it easy to go green.

“We try to set them up with the most energy efficient system and the way they can get to solar electricity and actually have efficiency.”

Our final stop takes us to Traveler's Rest where the “Cider House” rules.

“Everything that we do is within 50 miles of the place here.”

David Emory is the owner of the Cider House & More.

“We carry local produce during the summer months and we carry happy cow products, milk cheese butter,” says Emory.

A family store with a down home attitude and happy to be part of the I Phone tour.

“That’s great. We’re very pleased with it. It's done well for us.”

There are several different apps or programs that make it easy to find green answers. If you would like more info, email us here.
