    Family members and friends joined Southern Wesleyan University faculty and staff in celebrating the achievement of winter graduates Dec. 8 and 10 at Newton Hobson Chapel and Fine Arts Center on the campus in Central.

Heidi Wilcox Ravenscraft, a 2002 special education graduate, along with her sister Melissa Wilcox, a 2006 elementary education graduate, started Shoes for Steve four years ago. Their outreach, aimed at homeless shelters in the Upstate, is named in honor of their father, whose addiction to alcohol led to a life on the streets.

LeRoy commented that God delights not in a physical temple, but in a spiritual temple made up of his people.

Vendors made donations to Camp Hope, located in Clemson, which is dedicated to people with special needs and their families.

    The Ashe County Commissioners and the Boone Town Council will host a joint meeting on Tuesday June 23, 2009, 6-9 pm at Westwood Elementary School, 4083 US Highway 221 South, West Jefferson to discuss the Town of Boone's proposed water intake plant in the Brownwood area near Todd. The meeting will be an open forum Town Hall style format, with the public invited to ask questions and make comments. This is the first time the Town of Boone and the Ashe County Commissioners have publicly jointly addressed the issue. All are invited.
