SENECA, S.C. (AP) - Nuclear regulatory officials say the Oconee Nuclear Station near Seneca is operating safely, but operator Duke Energy could have addressed concerns at the plant faster. Officials say none of the problems was a serious risk to employees or the public and involved systems only meant to operate after an accident at the plant.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission says the problems included a washer and part of a broken wrench found in a pipe and an opening that could allow an auxiliary control room to flood.
Oconee Nuclear Station vice president Bruce Hamilton says all of the problems were fixed promptly.
