COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - President Bush today is to give a South Carolina high school senior a volunteer award today for creating an after-school science program for more than 300 at-risk students.
17-year-old Graham Van Schaik will receive the President's Volunteer Service Award when Bush visits the Columbia this morning. The Spring Valley High School student created the twice-a-week program, called Science Captivates Minds, for a Boys and Girls Club.
Van Schaik also received a state Education Board award earlier this year for organizing a hands-on summer science camp last year for elementary students. He was one of two students to receive the award.
