Toxicology Results Show Fire Victims Had Been Drinking

»  Comments | Post a Comment

North Carolina investigators say six of the seven students who died in a beach house fire had been drinking.

13 students were inside the house in Ocean Isle, NC when it caught fire last month.  Seven of them were killed in the blaze.  Toxicology reports show six of the students had substantial amounts of alcohol in their blood.  There was no sign of illicit drug use.

Brunswick County chief prosecutor Rex Gore says he does not believe the blood alcohol levels had anything to do with what caused the fire, or that they didn't survive.  The official cause of death was smoke inhalation and carbon monoxide poisoning.

A cause for the fire has not been determined, but improperly discarded smoking materials have not been ruled out.
