High Gas Prices Are Hurting Salvation Army

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The Salvation Army in Greenville is asking for help to deal with a heavy demand for emergency food relief.

More and more individuals from the community are arriving at the food distribution program - according to The Salvation Army of Greenville - declaring that they've finally reached the end of their savings.

"Rising gas prices are taking their toll" said Captain Greg Davis in a written statement. "When gas prices increase, it makes everything else more expensive, particularly food. For those at the lower end of the income spectrum, this hurts even more."

The Salvation Army of Greenville served 2,120 families with emergency food assistance in 2007.

The Salvation Army's Food Pantry is stocked with basic items like canned meat, canned vegetables, rice, pasta, flour and sugar. Those in need can stop by for a bag of food basics to help make it through the month.

To donate to The Salvation Army, call 235-4803 ext. 17.
