When you don't pay a bill your credit can take a big hit. One Upstate woman said she paid her medical bill but was being sent to collections instead. Dianne Derby got to the bottom of the billing mixup in this 7 On Your Side Problem Solver...
"I felt almost like I was the little kid in the playground and there was this big bully I was trying to deal with," said Cindy Edgerton.
That big bully was Greenville Hospital System. Edgerton says for months they've been beating her up about a medical bill she paid using her online banking.
"They could see where it was deposited but it did not go to my account and they could not find where it was deposited," she said.
Meanwhile they sent her letter after letter threatening to send her to collections.
"I said 'I paid it. I have the canceled check' but there wasn't anything they said they could do." said Edgerton.
Edgerton says she spent months working with GHS trying to get her issue resolved. She says she even showed up in person and was given the promise that everything would be taken care of but it wasn't until Problem Solvers got involved that she finally got the answers she needed.
"We e-mailed Saturday, Sunday you sent us a response back and Monday by noon the whole thing had been taken care of," said Edgerton.
Edgerton showed Problem Solvers two apology letters she received from GHS...one citing a "posting error" the other saying the "employee who made the error has been counseled."
"Through this process many times we were told it would be taken care of but until you see it in writing there is no closure," said Edgerton. "Now having the letters from them I feel like I can finally close the book to this."
