» 0 Comments | Post a Comment

Michael Edward Mathis, 54, was beaten and robbed Monday night, the Spartanburg Police told us Tuesday.

Mathis was walking back to his home at 416 North St., in Spartanburg, after checking the mail when he found two people in his house. Mathis said the men began to hit and kick him and then stole $150 in cash from his pocket before running from his home.

Mathis said he lost conciousness shortly after. When he woke, he called police.

Mathis said he recognized one of the men who attacked him from an earlier trip to a nearby liquor store. Evidently, Mathis told police, the suspect became interested in Mathis when he saw how much money the victim had in his possession.

Mathis said the suspect tried to convince Mathis to take a walk in the woods, but Mathis instead decided to walk home.

One suspect is described as a black male, aged 35 to 45, about 5'8", 180 lbs, with black hair and brown eyes.

He is of slim build and was last seen wearing grey pants and a white shirt.

The second suspect is not described in police reports.
