CHEROKEE, N.C. -- Investigators say they've stopped a cheating ring that stole $286,000 at a North Carolina casino.
The Asheville Citizen-Times reported Wednesday that no arrests have been made but investigators are questioning a 26-year-old card dealer at Harrah's Cherokee Casino.
Cherokee Indian Police Chief Ben Reed says the FBI has been contacted.
Officials said the cheating ring operated for about three weeks before it was stopped.
Computer programs that match the money paid with winnings recorded on the gambling floor alerted officials to the problem.
Officials say 11 gamblers also were suspected in the cheating ring.
Patrick Lambert, with the Cherokee Tribal Gaming Commission, told us that the commission is pushing for full prosecution of everyone involved.
"We are very proud of our staff with the Cherokee Tribal Gaming Commission and the casino management staff who worked diligently to uncover and investigate this embezzlement and theft," he said. "Our extensive regulatory system and rules are primarily responsible for detecting this scheme."
