Greenville City Investigators issued a warning Thursday to its citizens regarding the catalytic converter thefts in the Upstate region recently.
Recently, theives have been stealing the parts from underneath cars.
Vehicles being targeted most, police say, are Toyota trucks and SUVs, vehicles with a high ground clearance. Depending on the vehicle, theives can remove the part with electric saws in less than a minute.
Tips to avoid converter thefts:Try to park in a safe and secure place.
When possible, keep your vehicle in a garage instead of your driveway.
An alarm installer can add a sensor on the converter to set off your alarm when theives try to steal it.
Have a mechanic tack weld the nut and bolt on the part
Engrave your driver's license number on the part.
If you see a suspicisou person or vehicle get a description and tag number, if possible, before calling 911
