40 firefighters from both South and North Carolina are fighting a fire on Bailey Mountain in northern Greenville County on Tuesday. The South Carolina Forestry Commission says the fire now covers over 25 acres.
The Forestry Commission says the job is difficult for crews because of steep and rocky terrain. Crews are carving fire breaks into the mountain with hand tools. No homes are threatening and they continue to work to get the fire contained.
There are 19 SCFC workers on the scene and they are getting assistance from the North Carolina Division of Forest Resources, Tryon, NC FD, Glassy Mountain FD, and Greenville Watershed personnel.
A staging area for crews has been set up at Orchard and Oak Grove roads in northern Greenville County.
Rocky Spur Mountain is located near Hogback Mountain.
