COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina budget chiefs are expected to warn that a worsening economy will create budget gaps.
The state Budget and Control Board is scheduled to meet Tuesday and its members have told The Associated Press they plan to call for state agencies to save up to 2 percent of their budgets. The four members who spoke to the AP did not agree on whether they'll ask state agencies to set aside the cash they planned to spend right away - or whether they'll ask agency chiefs to start looking for places to trim.
Several state agencies said last week that they already have frozen hiring. Those include the Public Safety and Education departments.
