Court officials told us Friday that Judge Zoro Guice has moved the rape trial of Polk County Sheriff Chris Abril has been moved to Haywood County. Guice said he didn't feel there was enough room in the courtroom.
A tentative trial date is set for Nov. 10, with a two-week term of court.
Abril, 45, was arrested on Aug. 28, 2006, and charged with five counts of first-degree statutory rape and one count of first-degree sexual offense stemming from alleged incidents in 1988 and 1989 involving a 10-year-old girl and a 12-year-old girl.
He went on to win the sheriff's race in Polk County the same year.
