The Greenville County School District, Spartanburg Districts 1-7, Anderson Districts 1-5 and Pickens County public schools will all open Tuesday morning for the start of the 2008-2009 academic year.
Greenville County Schools will open three new schools. Two schools, Ralph Chandler Middle School and Rudolph G. Gordon Elementary School, were completed as part of the BEST School Construction Program.
Sterling School will also open to students in grades 4K through 8th grade. Initially, the school will serve 4K through second grade, with a grade added each year.
The Greenville County Sheriff's Office says their traffic unit will be out in force working school zones and other high traffic areas for the first few weeks of the school year.
Spartanburg District 2 will open with some traffic headaches for Boiling Springs Intermediate School.
A traffic signal is in the works for the intersection of Old Furnace and Hanging Rock, but it is currently a four-way stop; during the morning rush, the line can be long but usually moves along well according to Rhonda Henderson of District 2.
She adds a water main break on Highway 9 between Valley Falls and Blalock roads may cause some delays in that area.
