Anderson Police say two people were huffing cans of computer keyboard cleaner, when one of them lit a cigarette and caused a car to explode. Both men are now at the Augusta Burn Center.
The blast was reported around 8:35 Thursday night on Mall Road near at the Anderson Civic Center baseball fields.
The police incident report says Brian Terry Kelly, 19, of Conastee told officers he and and Todd Anthony Mellon, 34, of Hoschton, GA had gone through four or five cans of areosol - with the windows rolled up in Mellon's Subaru Legacy - when Mellon attempted to light a cigarette.
The chemicals in the air exploded, which caused all the car's door windows to blow out.
The Anderson Police report says Mellon suffered second degree burns to his hands, face, legs and neck. Kelly appeared to have second degree burns to his chest, neck and face. One firefighter was taken to the hospital after breathing some of the fumes as a precautionary measure.
Both were taken to AnMed Health Medical Center before doctors determined they needed to be sent to the Augusta Burn Center.
Anderson City firefighters and a hazardous materials team were called to the area to investigate the car after the explosion.
No specific charges against Mellon and Kelly were listed in the incident report beyond "drug/narcotics violations."
