25 Days of Wishes with our Caring for the Carolina partners continues with one of biggest wishes granted so far. The wish came from Bailey Buck of Highlands, North Carolina. Her father was diagnosed with lung cancer in May, but was having trouble making it to his treatments.
Hi, my name is bailey and I'm 19 yrs old. I know this is alot to ask, but I wish so much that ya'll can help me. My father, David was diagnosed with stage B lung cancer in May. Although he quit smoking over 12 years ago, he still got cancer and is in the fight of his life. He and my mom had to travel from highlands to Asheville every day for 6 weeks when the gas prices were at their worst. After the treatments, he ended up having to have his entire lung removed. A couple weeks ago, he had infection that ended up with him having 2 ribs removed and a huge wound left open for it to drain. The doctors sent him home with a huge open wound and a home health nurse has to come to pack and dress it daily. After the wound heals, they plan to continue with daily radiation and chemo in Asheville. My parents have only one car that is very old and in bad shape. It breaks down constantly and I fear they won't be able to resume his cancer treatments.
My dad has been such an inspiration and refuses to give up his valiant fight for life. He's only 56 and I really love and need him. I know this is alot to ask and I know you're not Oprah who can give an entire audience an automobile, but if my dad could get a used car that could safely get him to Asheville and back, he could resume his treatments. We've had to depend on others sometimes for rides and with a car, they could have some peace of mind and hope for his long trips to Asheville. My dad is the bravest person I know and has such a positive attitude for beating this horrible disease. If they had a small used car, their fight would be easier. I want him to beat this disease because I need him and hate to see him suffer. He is a very hard worker, and his been an inspiration to the entire community. It would be a blessing if there is any way you could help us with his battle for his life.
May God Bless you.
Love,
Bailey Buck
Tuesday on “Your Carolina”, Bailey’s wish came true and Jack and Kimberly handed Bailey’s father, David Buck, the keys to an Oldsmobile provided by an anonymous donor.
