Billy Roy Burriss, charged with the murder of his wife and leaving her remains in a trash can, appeared before a judge in Anderson Wednesday morning.
Buriss is charged with murder, malicious destruction of personal property, criminal domestic violence 3rd degree, criminal domestic high and aggravated possession of a firearm during commission of a violent crime.
Judge Ken Mattison only ruled on the malicious destruction of personal property that didn't involve his wife.
The judge ordered Burriss to pay a fine of $1,092.50 or spend 30 days in jail, and must pay $100 in restitution to the victim within 30 days of release from jail.
Judge Mattison sent all the other charges to a circuit court judge, who is the only one who has authority to set bond in a murder case.
Burriss did ask for a public defender. He also said he currently does not have a job, but has worked as a painter in the past. The judge advised him of his rights, the charges against him and appointed the public defender.
Buriss turned himself in on Tuesday afternoon to Anderson Police more than two days after officers found the body of Suzanne Burriss, 51, at a home at 615 Lanford Street.
Arrest warrants were signed Monday morning charging Billy Roy Burriss with the murder of his wife.
Authorities say Suzanne Burris had taken out a restraining order against Billy Roy Burriss. They say he beat her with a baseball bat a few months ago. Her family says that they had no idea that Suzanne's life was ever in any danger.
Mary Mackey is one of Suzanne's Burriss's six children. She tells News Channel 7 the funeral and visitation for her mother will be at Marcus Brown funeral home. The viewing will be all day Thursday and the funeral will be at 2:00pm Friday.
