The Seneca city administrator says one of the two female city employees in the Recreation Department, suspended for sending a racist email from their work computers last week has resigned Thursday.
Seneca City Administrator, Greg Dietterick says as their punishment, the mayor had suspended both women for three days, and then placed them on a 6 month probation, meaning if anything else happened, they would be dismissed. Dietterick says this woman chose to leave instead. The other female in question has served her suspension and is back at work with the city’s recreation department.
News Channel 7 coverage partner The Anderson Independent-Mail reported the employees have been suspended for a week without pay.
The paper says the employees sent an email that contained a version of "The Night Before Christmas" that described Santa Claus as a black burglar.
City Administrator Dietterick told the Independent-Mail he would review their records and determine if the city needed to take more action when they returned.
The city didn't release the employees' names.
A News Channel 7 Reporter spoke with Recreation employees on Friday. They said the email was that bad and the punishment was a little unfair.
