WASHINGTON (AP) - The White House says President Bush finds the alleged behavior of the embattled Illinois governor to be "astounding."
Gov. Rod Blagojevich is accused of scheming to enrich himself by offering to sell the vacated Senate seat of President-elect Barack Obama for campaign cash or a lucrative job inside or outside government. The FBI arrested him on Tuesday on charges of conspiracy and solicitation to commit bribery.
White House press secretary Dana Perino said Thursday that Bush "believes that it's a very serious situation" and that "the charges are astounding."
Perino said she had not spoken to Bush about whether he thinks Blagojevich should resign, as Obama and other prominent Democrats have suggested.
