Country Santa Kicks off Season of Giving

» 0 Comments | Post a Comment

**December 16 Update**
Country Santa has bagged toys for more than 830 families, but he still has 250 families to go. The group is still looking for donations to guarantee other needy children get gifts this holiday.

Buddy Cox began collecting toys for children at Christmas at his kitchen table. Thirty years later, Country Santa has his own workshop orchestrating a program in Pickens County that assists thousands of needy families for the holiday.

Last year Country Santa and his hundreds of volunteers helped make the holiday brighter for 3050 children, with donations were down by one-third. "This year, if it doesn't get better, we will probably have to back off to 2000, and it will be a tough call who gets cut on the list," says Cox.

Just last week he was named an angel by the Secretary of State. The angels honored represent organizations that exemplify charitable giving in South Carolina, according to Mark Hammond’s office.

This year, Country Santa is concentrating on Pickens, Oconee and Northern Greenville Counties.
