These charities are working with their communities to help make Christmas a special occassion for some needy families this year. If you want to help, or need help, contact them:
Middle Tyger Community Center:After News Channel 7 held a phone bank to help the Middle Tyger Community Center provide toys for needy children in the Upstate, officials there say they received sponsorship for all 1,011 children on their list.
A note from the center states they received a steady stream of calls offering to help and thanked everyone for their help.
Operation GO! Ministries:If you want to donate money, bring it by the church at 635 Haywood Rd. Building E. Checks make out to RWOC, memo that it is for Holiday Hope. Specifically need toys for boys and girls between the ages of 0 and 3, and any kind of bicycles. You can drop those off at the same address as above. After helping out families on Dec. 20, the ministry handed out leftover toys and supplies on Monday.
The Salvation Army:The Salvation Army says that they are still in need of toys and clothes for children up through the age of 13 and will be taking donations at the Carolina First Center and their offices on Rutherford Street in Greenville through Saturday because distribution starts Monday. Also, money donations are still needed through their kettle drive to help them with their programs throughout the year.
Country Santa:The Country Santa website says their greatest needs right now are toys for babies and gifts for teens.
Cops For Tots:Lt. Holcombe from Greer Police says that Cops for Tots are set on their donations. A final joint donation of $5000 from two churches, Praise Cathedral and His Vinyard, put them over the top. The 600 kids that they help will start receiving their presents at 9am Saturday when distribution starts. Holcombe says that if anyone else in the community feels the need to give that they should give to one of the other organizations who have a greater need and keep them in mind next year.
